Migration to Free Software (FOSS)

Migration to Free Software (FOSS)

The German City of Munich has switched from Microsoft operating systems to Free Software. Extremadura, at Spain, and other regions are success cases too. The United States White House moved its website to FOSS. In France, the National Gendarmerie announced it will totally switch by 2015.

Scientific entities were the first to make use of free software, creating the Internet and so on. Companies have followed and now it is usual companies use Free Software at least in parts of their infrastructure.

These are just some examples. Free software is emerging as a model of development in both the field of public administration and in the private sector due to its advantages in terms of reliability, ability to customise and adapt to your internal processes, no use-restrictions or licensing costs, or ties to any specific vendor.
